What is Compressed Air Treatment?

Compressed air treatment is an essential process that ensures a consistent supply of clean and dry compressed air. This process utilizes air filters and an air dryer to achieve optimal results. A well-designed compressed air treatment system reduces the air's dew point and removes harmful particles that could potentially damage the air compressor.

How Compressed Air Dryer Package Work?

Different types of dryers operate based on various working principles, each tailored to meet specific applications and requirements:

  • Refrigerated Air Dryer Working Principle

Refrigerated air dryers are among the most commonly used air dryers, valued for their efficiency, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness. They work by cooling compressed air, causing moisture to condense and separate. The dry air is then reheated before use, making these dryers ideal for general industrial applications where moderate dew point suppression is sufficient. Their operation resembles that of a household refrigerator or air-conditioning system, making them easy to maintain and versatile across industries.

These dryers are available in two types: cycling and non-cycling. Cycling dryers operate continuously to maintain a consistent dew point, while non-cycling dryers work intermittently to regulate temperature. Both are effective for specific needs, though cycling dryers may have higher maintenance costs due to constant operation. The choice between the two depends on the application’s requirements and budget considerations.

  • Desiccant Air Dryer Working Principle

Desiccant air dryers are designed to produce exceptionally dry air by using desiccant materials to adsorb moisture. These dryers are ideal for oil & gas and chemical and petrochemical industries where extremely low dew points are required. A typical desiccant system consists of two towers: one for drying the air and another for regenerating the desiccant material. The drying tower contains porous desiccant that traps water molecules as compressed air passes through. For specialized environments, single-tower desiccant dryers offer a simpler design without mechanical parts or electricity, making them suitable for hazardous and corrosive conditions.

There are three main types of desiccant air dryers: heated, heatless, and heat of compression systems. Heated desiccant dryers use an internal heat source to regenerate the desiccant, reducing the need for purge air and achieving dew points as low as -73.3°C. Heatless dryers rely on purge air alone to regenerate the desiccant, offering similar low dew points but without a heating system. Heat of compression dryers use both towers simultaneously, providing lower operating costs but less consistent dew points. These options cater to diverse industry needs, particularly in colder climates or environments requiring ultra-dry air.
